Multiple Birth Awareness

Yesterday was our spring garage sale. We had a great turn out and we were able to meet a lot of new moms. It was great to chat with so many moms excited at the prospect of having twins. It brings back my own memories of finding out we were expecting twins and all of the excitement and fear that came with them.

Did you know that this April is the 1st ever "Multiiple Birth Awareness Month?" There are so many joys and challenges that face multiple birth families. Multiple births are on the rise and families need to know that there is already a support network in place. The National Organization of Mothers of Twins suggests that parents need to establish relationships with members of a local organization so that they don't find themselves struggling through early problems with no one to turn to for advice, hints, and suggestions.

Come meet moms just like yourself. Attending club meetings is a great way to learn about our club and become involved in our events and activities. Our next meeting will be tomorrow night, Monday, April 6th. We'll be having pizza and our program will include a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner who will be answering our questiions. I invite you to attend and get to know our wonderful group of moms. Please contact membership@doublejoy.org for more information.

Get Involved

Are you in a position where you'd like a chance to network with other moms with multiples but not sure how to go about locating other moms? How would you like to offer support, encouragement and advice to new moms of multiples who aren't quite sure how they are going to get through the unique challenges of raising multiples. Maybe you are a new or pregnant mom, who is scared about how you are going to handle more than one infant at the same time? Mothers of multiples groups are about supporting, sharing, encouraging, and connecting with new parents of multiple birth children. Along the way, you will make friends who will understand all the joys and trials you will face as a parent of multiples. I invite you to get to know us, attend a meeting, and find out what we are all about.

Message from the President

Thank you to everyone who helped with the Garage Sale in October. For the number of people selling and thru the door we did well. The Chili Supper is coming up and the main thing we need is CHILI EATERS! People to come & eat chili. Moms, Dads, Grandmas, Uncles, neighbors. Family style dining. Lots and Lots of twins everywhere. It will be great to get caught up with everyone & to see how big everyone's kids are now!
It's hard for me to believe that my first Double joy meeting was December of 2002 almost 6 years ago! Wow! It has flown by. Everyone said to enjoy the babies because they grow so fast and it's true. I may not have realized it at the time but now that they are in school they won't let me call them “my babies” anymore, I have to say "my kids" or "my childrens" as Lauren would say. I'm so happy to see so many new faces over this year.

I hope you come to the club knowing that every meeting, garage sale, and convention you go to makes you closer & closer friends with other moms & some day you'll turn around to a group of close friends and say "I can't believe it's been 6 years!" It goes fast.

Our February Meeting

We had a great February meeting. We had 4 perspective members join us and it was wonderful to have new faces in our midst. We went over the budget for the year and then had one of our members, who is a travel planner, speak about "Traveling With Twins" - she gave tips, money saving advice, and lots of other great information. Our Spring Garage Sale is going to be on Saturday April 5th - see the home page for more information.
